Intro
Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna (1923 - 2011) was a visionary dance guru, scholar, and musicologist who devoted his life to reviving the lost warrior dance tradition of the Kakatiya era.
Perini Sivatandavam flourished in the 13th century under the Kakatiya rulers of Warangal. It was performed before battle to invoke energy, courage, and devotion to Lord Shiva.
Through close study of temple sculpture, textual sources such as Nritta Ratnavali, and deep rhythmic understanding, he reconstructed the form with remarkable care and cultural sensitivity.
His work led to the first major modern revival performance in 1974 and helped re-establish Perini as a living tradition for future generations of dancers, teachers, and researchers.
